Factory price is not product cost

Landed cost is the per-unit cost of a finished garment sitting in your warehouse, ready to sell. It includes fabric and trims, cutting and sewing, wash and finishing, labels and packaging, freight, duty, inspection, and the samples and patterns you already paid for.

Brands that price off the factory quote alone routinely discover their 60% margin is nearer 35% once the goods arrive. The calculator exists to stop that happening at the point where it is still fixable.

Development is a real line, not a rounding error

Patterns, grading, sample fabric bought at minimum purchase quantities, three or four sample rounds and the shipping between them. Amortised over a small first run, development is frequently the single largest line on the sheet — the template divides the totals by your order quantity automatically so you can see it.

When the price does not work, attack it in this order

  1. Fabric — a different weight, width, mill or a stock programme
  2. Construction — an operation that adds cost without adding value
  3. Trims — branded hardware versus stock equivalents
  4. Quantity — find where the price breaks actually fall
  5. Factory — the same garment, a better-matched plant
  6. Country — only when volume justifies the move

Quality comes last deliberately. The version of the product that sells is what makes the maths work at all.
